“Hakuna Matata – A North Atlantic circuit next summer”
«Good judgment comes from experience… Unfortunately, experience comes from bad judgment. »
A Multihulls World reader for the past year, I have a Windelo 50 currently in build, on which we are planning a North Atlantic circuit as a family from May to December 2021. So how did this project come about? We’d been talking about taking a six-month family trip for a long time. But with a busy professional life and the children’s studies to think about, the idea had taken a back seat. However, it was high time that we made this dream come true!
For quite a few years now, we have been chartering boats, mainly cats, for between two and five weeks at a time, in the Mediterranean or Brittany (France). The choice of Windelo was a natural one. I like the innovation and customization possibilities. The Windelo has a lot to offer: a good team, a beautiful production site, and a high-performance boat.
Our catamaran is currently under construction at Canet-en-Roussillon, in the South of France. We would like to offer other catamarans the opportunity of sailing with us, with everyone keeping their own program and being able for example to join us wherever and whenever it suits them. If you have sailed this route and have any advice, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Our departure is planned for May 2021 and our journey should take us around Spain and then Ireland, Scotland (July), the Faroe Islands and Iceland, Canada (September), and the United States and the Bahamas. From November to January: Cuba, then the West Indies. Why this route? It should allow us to avoid the high summer heat while benefiting from long sunny days, favorable winds, magical sites, and the Indian Summer…
